I’d suggest the 851UL with shrouded hammer. Otherwise it is the same as the 85UL.

Some people think Taurus revolvers aren’t that great, but I’ve never had a problem with mine. It shoots well, and I can shoot it well.

It’s a good revolver for self defense, that is what I bought mine for. However, if I wasn’t planning on concealing it, I’d buy something that wasn’t an ultra-light, with a barrel that is longer than 2”.

Sure. I have 2 of them.

But a lightweight snub nosed revolver is not exactly a beginner’s gun. It takes some practice to using the almost non-existent sights and working on reloads.

I carry a titanium one, and it’s been a great little revolver at a decent price. The one thing I would have your relative consider is whether he wants the ultralight or not.

The ultralights are a joy to carry, as you hardly know it’s on you, but the recoil can be a bit stout with some of the +P defensive ammo out there. This could be a consideration for some people, as it may affect the speed of subsequent shots if ever needed.

In my experience, the titanium one is fine with regular ammo, but some of the heavier +P’s are controllable but about all I really care to hang onto.

What I’m getting at is some people might be a bit more comfortable with the regular weight one, especially if they aren’t very experienced with handguns.

Got something to say?
