Okinawan Kobudo uses the bo; many karate systems, especially the ones from Okinawa, will sometimes incorporate it into their training. I believe Isshin-Ryu especially has bo work at black belt level.
Wing Chun Kung Fu uses the staff for certain. Many other kung fu systems will use it as well. It’s a more sure than than karate systems, as kung fu has almost always trained weapons side-by-side, traditionally speaking, with empty-hand techniques.
Kali will also use a long staff sometimes, although they’re better known for short sticks.
Some Western/Medieval martial arts will also use staffs or pole-arms.
Check around for the schools near you, call ‘em up and ask ‘em.
kung fu, karate? alot of martial arts use bo staffs
this is more up to the instructors then the styles. not everyone teaches weapons. and those that do not all of them teach it correctly.
kung fu, karate (kobudo) and tdk all have staff weapons,
the bo is an Okinawan weapon of the kobudo systems, karate means empty hand and does not have weapons but some schools teach kobudo (old martial arts) which incorporates the bo
Most do. However, you may wait for a while to develop your skils before your instructor will trust you enough to give you a 5-6 foot stick to swing around in the school.
The bo or staff is a universal weapon across many cultures and nations. Common items such as an umbrella, cane, broom, or just a big stick on the ground can all be used in place the actual weapon.
Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu is one art that teaches staff (Pang in Chinese). It was one of the first weapons the monks learned to use.
Most schools teach weapons today. It depends on the instruct as to which weapons they teach. Some schools will teach you certain weapons based upon rank. Years ago you wouldn’t be taught a weapon until you were at least a brown belt. Today it is different. You begin learning weapons at white belt. This is done because of tournaments. When you enter a tournament you can compete in sparring, kata , and weapons kata all for one price. That is 3 chances to go home with a trophy. Again years ago you didn’t start with weapons until brown belt. It was believed that a person would not have the motor skills to properly use a weapon until you were that rank.
Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu has very good Bojutsu but here are many martial arts that teach it.
