Small Unnoticeable Self Defense Items
November 17, 2009
Question..What are some easy-to-make small, unnoticeable self defense items?
Sometimes, after school, I walk across the road to where my mom works. I have a fairly small physical body, and, despite being present at a few classes of Taekwondo, am not very threatening at all. My school is in the more ritzy part of the big city, and I would like a how-to on how to make a small self-defense weapon that can fit in my purse/backpack/pocket.

Got something to say?

Just some humble ideas here:
–If you study Tae Kwon Do, you learn to kick, right? So…invest in a pair of sturdy, steel-toed work shoes. In class, see if you can't get a *little* free time to practice low kicks (think foot or shin level).
–Aside from that….get in the habit of carrying a small, retractable umbrella, or a wooden ruler (like you'd use to measure things in school). Do a search on the whole phrases "pocket stick" and "self-defense", quotes and all. There's even a Korean art specifically about this, that involves using pocket sticks *just like* wooden rulers. And, for the most part they're legal, since the term "pocket stick" can cover a broad array of ordinary hand-held items: retractable umbrellas, wooden rulers, pocket flashlights, older (thicker) models of cell phone (the super-thin Razr types don't count), rolled-up newspapers & magazines….
So long as what you carry (and use) falls under the description of "ordinary item" and not "specifically a weapon", you should be legally in the clear. ^_^ In other words, anything *But* one of those "self-defense keychain" sticks.
Still, having the item isn't enough, you do need to learn a few ways to use it properly, and who knows, maybe even your instructor could help out with that.
Hope this helps. ^_^ Good luck to you!
well…… you can buy a small baseball bat… its mini version and use it if someone tries to attack you or something relavent
Your housekeys make great tools already. Fit the keys in between your fingers to punch/scratch. Also I have had many smaller girls put a big rock or a brick into their purses to make a decent swinging bludgeon. Mace/pepperspray is also easy and small.
Keep in mind that hiding a self defense weapon is a crime. Your best defense is often your brain. Know when to run, and how to get yourself out of a situation. The best way to win a fight is to not get into one in the first place.
Take a $10.00 Ten $ dollar roll of quarters and place them in a heavy sock, then tie the top of the sock in a knot.* You can also get a walking cane or walking stick with a heavy brass ornament located on the top of it.* Either one will do the trick.* If I were you I would carry both.* Great defensive weapons.* Both would be legal to have in your possession on school property.* Don't let anyone know about it besides yourself.* The element of surprise on your part is best kept secret for your safety.*
I recommend keys. I don't recommend carrying your home keys where they can be grabbed. I also don't recommend having home keys in purse along to address as directions for where-to-burgle/rob. Real keys in your pocket on retractable leash, junk keys in hand for punch-and-run-like-heck.
If you have long hair, you have an excuse for hair picks. If you knit, you have an excuse for a sock-in-progress with up to 5 double-pointed knitting needles, the finer the yarn, the finer the needles. The "tang" of a shawl pin may be of variable sharpness and either fully-attached to the associated ring or separate. Keep in mind that you will be held responsible for injuries from such items, requiring extra care for innocent bystanders in close quarters such as elevators and other crowded places.
Hair sticks.
The Chinese used chopsticks and things called "Judge's pen" (paint brush made of metal), and even hair pins – basically anything short and sharp, as weapons in martial arts.
It's possible to use your car keys. Slide a few of your longer keys between your fingers and make a fist around the rest. Do this before you walk outside. If you can, hold the car key in your thumb and first finger so you are ready to open the car door right away.
