    This book is the predecessor of the excellent best-seller “More Wealth Without Risk”. This book is not as useful or as comprehensive as MWWR, but the two books are largely complementary without too much overlap. If you are know little of personal finance, insurance, investing, etc. in the USA, then I would recommend that you buy both books — both will save you some money and help you make more informed decisions. Givens has a reputation as a bit of a rogue but he is smart and humerous. Take care to apply his suggestions carefully so that you don’t leave yourself exposed (some strategies will only work if you apply all elements), but do try them — some are easy no brainers that will save you hundreds of dollars with little effort. Insurance sales people must hate these books! Ha!

    In 1985 after attending a Charles J. Givens financial seminar, I along with 3 other people, bought a house using Givens techniques presented at the seminar, which are essentially a summary of what is in his books. We ended up losing several thousand dollars each. Education is expensive. Stay away from get rich quick schemes. Ask yourself, “If this is such a great idea, why on God’s Green Earth is this person NOT actually practicing these techniques instead of writing a book, or giving seminars about it. Answer is, because they can make more money, easier selling the books/seminars than they can actually doing what they preach.

    “Financial Self-Defense” contains 22 Chapters and 490 pages. It is a cornucopia of some of the finest information available on: 1. Winning the automobile game, 2. Saving thousands when you buy insurance, and 3. Putting the tax system on your side. And much more. Its a book on “how to win financially” and a precious tool-box full of top choice answers.

    TREMENDOUS BOOK
    Charles Givens business books are my #1 favorites of all time. In “Financial Self-Defense” you benefit from a great variety of topics, all of which help you either: 1. To Save Money, or 2. Make More Money, much easier than you expect. I started using Given’s book in 1993. Since then, I have found nothing else comparable. The book offers at least 186 comprehensive financial self-defense suggestions. Its a tremendous book. It helped me far beyond what I expected.

    SUMMARY
    This gentleman has a reputation for being an author of excellence. Charles Givens book, “Financial Self-Defense” is easy to read, not hard to use and most of all: It delivers exceptional results. His suggestions work! The book is worth its weight in rich platinum. Buy it ’cause it truly works. Mark my words: “Good Fortune will come to you. ”

    Charles Givens never claimed to have some sort of get-rich-quick scheme, it’s a get rich quicker and how to win the fight for financial freedom program. In Financial Self DeFense, Givens shows people how to hold on to their money and how to keep banks, insurance companies and the IRS out of our pockets, using proven and legal methods that most people are just not aware of. Since reading Financial Self DeFense, we went from a 10 year old Chevette to a 3 year old Intrepid. Refused the service contract which saved us nearly $1,000.

    Thanks to the advice in Financial Self DeFense, we are saving $200 a year on auto insurance and a whopping $1,000 on life insurance from using the Life Insurance Clearinghouse as suggested in the book. We shopped and they had the best rates. So what if Givens had a business interest in the Life Insurance Clearinghouse? He save us a bundle, and we have no problem if Givens made a profit in the process!

    I found it interesting that a article appeared in Forbes attacking Mr Givens claim of 15% returns with mutual funds. Forbes said it was impossible. We have earned an average of 30% over the last five years in no-load mutuals and were safely out of stock funds over the last two years thanks to the money movement strategy. So much for Forbes!

    I believe that success brings criticism. With the exception of More Wealth without Risk, Financial Self DeFense was a best seller far outpacing other financial books. And the advice is more beneficial than listening to financial planners, insurance agents, brokerage firms, automobile sales people, bank loan officers etc.

    Were were also able to use Mr. Givens advice with the IRS and won!

    Our family is Chuck_full_of_Givens only for one reason–Chuck Givens was a brilliant financial strategist and his techniques work. Rest in peace Chuck and thank you for teaching us Financial Self DeFense
