i have a relative (age 65) that is looking to buy a pistol for self defense. he is thinking of getting a taurus model 85 ultralight .38 special. is this a good pistol for self defense.

Im thinkin of learning a martial art, partly to learn self defense and partly to have a bit of a challenge, a few cool tricks up my sleeve. Like brazilian capoeira but slightly more focused on the self defence.

What would you say is the most intense and realistic style of martial arts, that can be applied to reality self defense situations that you may potentially find yourself? im small and pretty strong but am looking for "passive" self defence, the kind where you don’t necessarily attack the person but just disarm their attacks against you.

I am a little trigger happy kind of guy and I fear that I will empty the whole magazine at the evil criminal who attempts to harm me, my family, and my property. I got into a fist fight with my sister (which I started), and her husband comes in the middle of the fight and starts choking me. At this point I could not hit my sister bad, but not only did I have her punching me and pulling my hair, but I had her husband choking me at the same time, and this lasted about 10 seconds. So, I know that her punches were self defense, but what about her husband choking me?
