Are there any good books on martial arts history?

Are there any good books on martial arts history? Books like The Original Martial Arts Encyclopedia. I am interested in the history of martial arts from Asia, and not Europe or America.
Thanks.

Got something to say?

The Bubishi as translated by Patrick McCarthy is a great resource.
Depends on what you’re interested in studying.
Japanese swordsmanship: William DeLange has a great trilogy of books highlighting the history.
Karate: Mark Bishop’s Okinawan Karate covers all traditional styles indepth.
For Chinese and Okinawan martial arts, there are issues with History as it is not always clear or explained due to propagated misinformation out of reverence for one’s teacher.
There are many good books…there are also many inaccurate books. But there is not, to my knowledge, one book that encompasses them all. As Kokoro (if I may, sir) has stated in the past, there are thousands of martial art styles out there, that not on book could possibly list them all, let alone explain the history and whatnot of them.
