Is it possible to defend oneself well after a short self defense course?

Question about self defense course length

Sometimes there are relatively short self defense courses at a school, or at an university or wherever.

In those kind of courses you don't acquire a good physical capacity of course(if you previously wasn't in a good shape)

So, can someone defend well after finishing that kind of self defense courses?

What martial arts program would be best for me?

Question about martial arts suitability..

I am looking for a martial arts program that would be best for a guy like me. I am 5'8" 225 lbs with a 34 inch waist. I am a bodybuilder and I go to the gym 3-5 days a week. I am not the smallest guy in the world so I am not sure which program would be for me. What do you guys think?

What are the appropriate or legal situations where a gun can be used for self defense?

Question about legal use of gun in self defense..

Say some person broke into my house at night . . . if I have a handgun, am I allowed to shoot them for self defense?

What if I see some one trying to steal my car in a parking lot or at home? How do police tell the difference between some one killed on purpose by a gun, from self defense?

For example person A is just walking along the street, then person B comes along and shoots person A and they die. Person B wanted to kill person A, but when police arrive person B could say "Oh well they were attacking me, I was defending myself". What happens then?

I'm thinking of getting a gun for self defense but I want to know when I would need to use it and when not too. I know much of it is common sense but I want to know for sure.

What is the best self defense/conditioning exercise?

Question about conditioning and self defense

I would like to begin a conditioning program (strength and cardio), but would also like to add a self defense aspect to it. I would like it to be low physical impact (ie. not kick boxing) I want to learn how to defend myself as well. Any ideas?
